Tips for Using Air BnB For the First Time

Matthew Yonally

Are you preparing to embark on a vacation where you’ll be staying in an Airbnb? Many people feel overwhelmed at the process of finding an Airbnb and everything that goes along with it. Don’t feel this way! There’s a reason so many people use Airbnb. It is easy and often times provides you with a cheaper and larger options than a hotel would. Read on for some tips for your first time staying at an Airbnb.

Narrow down your initial search

This is especially important if you are traveling to a large city. Airbnb has an enormous amount of listings, so you will want to start by narrowing your initial search. If you simply put the city in without your specifications, you will likely feel overwhelmed. Instead, start with your specifics. Narrow your search down by inputting the number of guests that will be staying, your price limit and more. You can choose how many bathrooms you want, if you’re willing to share a bathroom and more. The more tailored your search is, the happier you will be with the results.

Message Your Host Before Booking

Once you have found your dream Airbnb, you want to get to know your host. Keep in mind that you will probably be seeing this person throughout your trip and you want the relationship to be as seamless as possible, so start early. Reach out letting them know why you are interested in staying at their listing and ask them any questions you may have. By sending an initial message, you will have the opportunity to see how responsive they are. In addition, you’ll get a feel for their personality as well as how strict they may be when it comes to certain house rules. It is similar to meeting a landlord before renting from them. If they don’t return your message within a day or two, you may want to go a different direction.

Staying in an Airbnb can be an amazing experience. You don’t have to contend with other hotel guests, you have chosen the exact amenities that you prefer and you have parking and easy access to the local scenes. However, using Airbnb for the first time can feel overwhelming. If you are feeling this way, follow the above tips. Always create a very specific and tailored search, and once you find your dream Airbnb, make sure you connect with the host first. Once you have done these two things, you are bound to enjoy your stay!
